Course Overview

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is reshaping the future of insurance by enabling organizations to transform data into action, improve operational efficiency, and deliver more customer-centric solutions at scale. This webinar explores how artificial intelligence can help inclusive insurance move from access to meaningful value through better data, smarter customer segmentation, faster onboarding, stronger claims handling, and more responsive product design for underserved households, MSMEs, farmers, pastoralists, and low-income communities. Participants will gain practical insights into how AI can be applied across the insurance value chain, from product development and underwriting to fraud detection, claims management, and portfolio monitoring, while leveraging digital ecosystems to expand outreach and reduce costs. Through real-world examples and lessons from inclusive insurance initiatives across Africa, the webinar will demonstrate how AI can support greater financial inclusion, resilience, and sustainable growth while ensuring responsible, transparent, and ethical innovation.

Course Objectives

By the end of this webinar, the participant should be able to:

1. Explain how AI creates value across the inclusive insurance value chain, including product design, customer onboarding, underwriting, claims management, and portfolio monitoring.
2. Identify how digital platforms, APIs, and mobile channels can reduce costs and expand insurance access for underserved populations.
3. Apply AI concepts to inclusive insurance use cases such as MSME protection, agriculture and climate risk insurance, fraud detection, claims triage, and personalized pricing.
4. Recognise key responsible AI principles, including data privacy, transparency, fairness, bias mitigation, and human oversight.
5. Assess practical opportunities for AI adoption using lessons and case studies from inclusive insurance initiatives.

Course Outline

Target Audience

This training is designed for insurance and reinsurance professionals, inclusive insurance practitioners, underwriters, claims teams, product developers, digital transformation teams, aggregators, brokers, regulators, development partners, and ecosystem actors working to expand insurance access and resilience across Africa.

Logistics

The training will be conducted via the ZEP-RE Academy LMS. Participants are required to have a good internet connection and a digital device — preferably a laptop or tablet.

Delivery

There shall be a 90-minute presentation by the facilitators followed by a 30-minute Question & Answer session to address any questions, comments, or observations from participants.
