ESG & SUSTAINABILITY READINESS - Workshop Uganda
ESG & SUSTAINABILITY READINESS
Understanding the IRA ESG Guidelines for Insurers, 2026
WORKSHOP OVERVIEW
Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) considerations are increasingly central to sound corporate governance, resilient insurance operations, and long-term value creation. For Uganda’s insurance industry, the IRA ESG Guidelines for Insurers, 2026 establish a clear compliance and implementation framework for licensed insurance entities.
This executive, discussion-based workshop translates the Guidelines into practical priorities for Boards and Senior Management. Participants will examine governance accountabilities, material ESG risks, Phase 1 implementation actions, and the pathway towards annual ESG Statements and mandatory IFRS S1 and IFRS S2 sustainability reporting from 1 January 2028.
WORKSHOP OBJECTIVES
By the end of this workshop, participants will be able to:
- Explain the purpose, scope, and key obligations of the IRA ESG Guidelines for Insurers, 2026, and their importance in building resilient and sustainable insurance businesses.
- Distinguish the ESG oversight responsibilities of the Board from the implementation responsibilities of Senior Management and the designated ESG Lead.
- Identify and prioritize material ESG risks and immediate Phase 1 implementation actions, including governance arrangements, gap analysis, ESG policy development, and preparation of the first annual ESG Statement.
- Develop a practical 90-day ESG readiness action plan to support implementation and the organization's transition towards mandatory IFRS S1 and IFRS S2 sustainability reporting from 1 January 2028.
