ABOUT THE WORKSHOP

In light of the increasing frequency of large catastrophe claims globally, including in Africa, and the impact of climate change, reinsurers are emphasizing the importance of underwriting and pricing disciplines. SCOR and ZEP-RE aim to elucidate the technical aspects of pricing to enable ceding companies to better comprehend how reinsurers determine their quotes for reinsurance programs.

Mr. Bernard Katambala Chief Underwriting Officer, ZEP-RE (PTA Reinsurance Company)

Bernard Katambala is the Chief Underwriting Officer at ZEP-RE (PTA Reinsurance Company), with over 23 years of experience in reinsurance underwriting and risk management in the industry. Over the past 10 years, he has held senior roles at ZEP-RE, overseeing treaty and facultative business across diverse markets. An engineer by training, Bernard also leads the company’s Engineering Centre of Excellence, driving technical competence and knowledge in engineering risk underwriting. His strategic insights and technical depth make him a key voice in advancing underwriting practices across the region.

Beverly Dias Actuary – SCOR Africa

Beverly holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa and is a Fellow of the Actuarial Society of South Africa. Since joining SCOR in 2009, she has specialized in pricing reinsurance treaty business. Prior to her tenure at SCOR, Beverly worked as a pricing actuary and product manager at a South African bancassurer.
